Maybe I should just be happy with the Indians' debacle in left field. Just when I thought that having Jason Michaels and David Dellucci share left was the worst decision the Tribe could make, Eric Wedge proves me wrong. Last night, he let them both start! Please, please don't make things any worse. You know, like sign Barroid Bonds and make him our left fielder... I'd hang myself.
Speaking of Bonds, let's discuss guys whose last names begin with "B"... I don't like them. A few years back, I was petitioning to get rid of all of the "B's" on the Indians: namely, Broussard, Belliard and Blake. I never really had anything against these guys... they were just blocking other players. When we got rid of Broussard, we (eventually) upgraded to Ryan Garko. When we got rid of Belliard, we (eventually) upgraded to Asdrubal Cabrera. And now we watch Andy Marte sit on the bench, as Casey Blake plays to the level of our left fielders. Oh, and another "B": Joe Borowski... don't get me started. Replace him with a guy like Betancourt... okay, I guess some of the "B's" are alright.

Left Field and the Letter "B"Personally, I like Casey Blake. He is the type of guy that goes out and does his job...whatever it is that the team asks of him...and never complains. You could probably ask him to scrub the clubhouse toilets and he would do it with a smile on his face. He might not be the greatest Indian of all time, but he plays with the most heart. Every team needs a Casey Blake on there roster. |

Left Field and the Letter "B"I can't disagree with that. Casey Blake is a good guy, but he's not much of a clutch hitter. Last season he was sub- .200 with runners in scoring position, and 13 of his 18 home runs came with the bases empty. Now I'm not convinced that Andy Marte is the solution, but I'd like to see what he can do as Cleveland's everyday 3d baseman. |

Left Field and the Letter "B"But he also has a few opening day game winning hits...including a grand slam one year. I would rather see him at 3rd, and try to upgrade in left field. I don't see Andy Marte being the 3rd baseman of the future right now. I think you package him with either Dellucci or Michaels, and a pitching prospect or two, and try to get an impact corner outfield bat....or even 3rd baseman (moving Blake to left field). |

Left Field and the Letter "B"I hate to sound quite so anti- Casey Blake. I agree that the real trouble is in left field. Short-term, maybe we could delete Dellucci and Michaels, and then move Blake to left and move Marte to 3rd. But where does that put Shin-Soo Choo and Ben Francisco? What would you think about leaving Blake as a bench / role player? He can play 1B, 3B and OF, so he could give a regular starter a day off from time to time. I'd love if we could trade for an impact 3rd baseman... I'm just thinking about the guys who are already on the squad. |

Left Field and the Letter "B"Choo has a good chance of getting called up as soon as he comes off the DL. I think having Blake as a bench player would be a good move. I'm not sold on Marte at 3rd, but the Indians are afraid of pulling another Brandon Phillips-type move. So maybe the key is to play Marte at third, Choo/Fransisco in left field, and Blake off the bench. I would look to trade Dellucci and Michael |
